Useful Information / Activities on Menorca

 

Walking:

 

 

The island is relatively flat and provides the potential for gentle walking on the myriad of paths, tracks and minor roads.

For those wanting a bigger challenge the centre of the island has hills and the highest peak on the island the Monte Torro.

Coastal paths are numerous and offer the opportunity to experience the attractive rural landscapes and dramatic and beautiful cliffs overlooking the turquoise blue seas and golden sands of the beaches.

There are organized walks that are tailored to individual’s interests and ability.

Prehistoric sites:

 

 

Menorca has a rich history, but primary on the islands important historic sites are the numerous prehistoric monuments including:

  • Navetas – burial chambers shaped like upturned boats,
  • Taulas – “T” shaped tables which were thought to be a part of religious ceremonies
  • Talaiots – these are large circular monuments used as watchtowers and habitation

These historic sites are generally situated in the middle of farmland, all are able to be accessed freely.

Birds:

 

Menorca is an important “stop off” point for thousands of migrating birds moving north or south across the Mediterranean.

Spectacular resident species include the spectacular red kites, peregrine falcons, Egyptian vultures, ospreys and booted eagles.

Throughout the changing seasons, new species visit and provide an interesting challenge for the bird watchers. We provide a copy of the book “birds of Menorca” and also have access to a number of local ornithologists who can provide support to those interested in experiencing the wealth of bird life in menorca.

Flowers:

 

The expansive areas of meadows, Mediterranean coastal terrain, cliffs fields and gorges of menorca host the seasonal changing flowers of menorca of which up to 200 species are native. Spring time (March to May) provides the best time to see the wonderful blooms of wild flowers, including many species of beautiful orchids.

Other activities:

 

In S’algar a resort approx 6km from the house, there is a world class diving centre, catering for all levels of experience, together with canoeing, paragliding, bowls, tennis, archery and rife shooting.

Guided fishing trips, targeting bass, barracuda, amberjack and tuna can also be arranged.
