Menorca
Menorca is the quietest island of the Balearics; the people are relaxed and friendly towards the yearly influx of visitors, and openly welcome tourists to experience the unhurried quality of life that Menorca can offer. The landscape consists of rolling farmland, interspersed with native woodland of evergreen oak and pine, extending to beautiful cliffs and golden, sandy beaches, some of which can only be accessed by foot and are very secluded. It is a relatively small island (about 50 by 20 kilometers) which allows for easy exploration on the quite well built roads. Mahon is the capital of the Island and is found in the east. It boasts one of the largest natural harbors in the world. The original and ancient capital was Ciutadella in the west. While under British rule Mahon was declared the capital based on it having a larger and more suitable harbour. An evening in Ciutadella should include a visit to one of the open air markets and a stroll round the harbour where you can choose to dine at one of the many restaurants lining the quay-side. In all, Menorca is a beautiful and largely unspoiled island which has now been declared a "biosphere". You will enjoy your holiday in Menorca no matter what your interests are since it offers something for everyone, from those wanting to enjoy the fantastic beaches and bays to those interested in the walks, historic sites, birds and flowers – take your choice.
